Makarska eats along four stretches a few minutes' walk apart. The riva, officially Obala kralja Tomislava, runs from the harbour towards Kačić Square, with terraces under old pines and the restaurants with the longest tradition. Behind it, parallel to the sea, runs Kalalarga, the main street of the old town: stone, narrow, with konobas, bistros and one Thai kitchen. To the east, beside the moored boats, runs Marineta, with fish restaurants and the harbour view most in demand at night. To the west, along the town beach, Šetalište dr. Franje Tuđmana lines up restaurants whose terraces sit a few metres from the water. Above them is Ante Starčevića, the street of pizzerias and grills, and behind it Biokovo, where peka is still cooked. Typical dishes are grilled fish, black risotto and pašticada.
